Instant Ramen Grilled Cheese (Print Version)

Crispy ramen buns with melted cheddar and hot sauce make for a quick, flavorful snack or lunch.

# What You'll Need:

→ Ramen

01 - 1 package (3 oz) instant ramen noodles (flavor packet reserved or discarded)
02 - 1 large egg

→ Cheese Filling

03 - 4 slices (2.8 oz) cheddar cheese or cheese of choice
04 - 2 teaspoons hot sauce, adjust to taste

→ For Cooking

05 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
06 - Salt and pepper, to taste

# How To:

01 - Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add ramen noodles and cook for 2 minutes until just tender. Drain thoroughly and let cool slightly.
02 - Beat the egg in a bowl. Add drained noodles, season lightly with salt and pepper, and mix until noodles are coated.
03 - Divide noodles into four equal portions. Press each portion into a ring mold or small bowl lined with parchment paper to form compact patties.
04 - Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook noodle patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Remove and repeat with remaining patties.
05 - Place two noodle patties on a clean surface. Top each with two slices of cheese and drizzle with hot sauce. Cover with remaining patties to form sandwiches.
06 - Wipe skillet, add remaining butter, and return sandwiches to pan. Cook over low heat, pressing gently, 2–3 minutes per side until cheese melts and outsides are crispy.
07 - Slice sandwiches in half and serve hot.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It's comfort food on a sneaky budget—ramen and cheese transform into something that feels fancy.
  • The contrast between crispy noodle edges and melty cheese in the middle is genuinely addictive.
  • Ready in under 30 minutes, which means you can satisfy a craving without the commitment.
02 -
  • Drain the ramen until it's actually dry—any excess water will steam the patties instead of letting them crisp, and that's a tragedy.
  • Keep the heat moderate when melting the cheese; high heat will burn the outside before the inside softens.
03 -
  • If you don't have a ring mold, a small bowl or even a cookie cutter works perfectly for shaping the patties.
  • Let the cooked patties cool slightly before assembling the sandwich, or the cheese will melt and leak out before the outsides get crispy.
